‘July and After’ is a series of paintings completed in Joe’s final year of studying Fine Art (International) at the University of Leeds.  The images demonstrate Joe’s increasing interest in creating ‘cinematic’ paintings, with the consistent use of the ‘widescreen’ format and strong theatrical lighting.  Images such as ‘Platform A’ and ‘Going Nowhere’ can also be seen as examples of paying reference to specific conventions of film genres.  These paintings have been widely exhibited and shortlisted for various prizes - with pieces being shown in Urbis, Cornerhouse and the House of Commons.
